All remote control operated gas fires use a special Gas Fire Battery within the appliance. The Gas Fire Battery is used for various purposes: to power the receiver electronics for picking up your remote control signal (even when your not using the fire), opening the gas valve during ignition, igniting the flame and running various sensors such as the oxygen sensor. Without power from the battery your fire cannot function. You can tell when the battery has expired or run down as the fire beeps, ignition starts but then powers off or you get no spark at all.
One of several brands of Gas Fire Battery are commonly used (all are more or less equivalent). Usually referenced either as 2LSH20, ML0004, 2ER34615M, 2S1PLSH20 or 2X34615 made by SAFT (France) or EVE (China). Some manufacturers have their own branded batteries, such as Verine or Burley, which again are more or less equivalent.
And because the Gas Fire Battery has to power a lot of things, a very large current and capacity requirement is placed on it. Hence these batteries are historically made from very high-power Lithium chemistry. Lithium batteries can last from a year to many years (depending on the fire and of course usage). But as the price of Lithium has rocketed the original batteries have become incredibly expensive. On top of this these very high capacity Lithium batteries are now classified as dangerous "prohibited goods" and can no longer be shipped. So, since 2016, we have phased Lithium batteries out and no longer supply.
Instead, to cater for fire owners we offer a range of our own cost-effective and safer modern alternatives: lower power alkaline batteries (our replaceable 6xAA BATTERY HOLDER and ALKALINE BATTERY), a rechargeable battery pack including charger so you will never need to buy another again (our RECHARGEABLE BATTERY), and a mains adapter if you have a suitable electric outlet within or near your fireplace (our MAINS ADAPTER). They are made out of much safer compounds than the original Lithium, particularly important around heat sources, using modern chemistry. And as an added benefit all our products also include a much improved heat insulating and flame proof coating compared to the originals, tested to over 150C in temperature controlled ovens. So in summary, MacBattery Gas Fire Battery products have been specifically designed to replace the original batteries, being both electrically and mechanically compatible, but at a fraction of the price to suit different budgets and inherently safer.
We have been in business since 2012 and have supplied directly to a wide range of retail, trade and consumer customers since then, with very positive feedback. We have shipped thousands of batteries per year and our return/defect rate has been extremely low (less than one in one hundred).
